5 Tips For Working With A Virtual Assistant

There are so many amazing reasons that working with a Virtual Assistant is beneficial to your business, but how do you work with them? Here are 5 tips to help you have a successful relationship with your assistant and make the most of the time you are sharing with them.

  1. Regular Communication - This is important because the Virtual Assistant is there to help you with any tasks you are willing to outsource to them. When working with a VA, it’s imperative to provide clear and concise instructions for the work that needs to be completed. Checking in with your virtual assistant and scheduling regular meetings is critical, especially in the beginning. This ensures your virtual assistant is clear on the tasks to be completed and helps build trust and confidence to form a working relationship that lasts.

  2. Delegate Tasks- Draft a list of tasks you want your VA to take off your hands, this will help ensure that you are making the most of the time being paid to them, and the work is being completed. Once your task list has been finalized, delegate these tasks accordingly and ensure that your assistant is set up with the right access and passwords to complete them remotely.

  3. Providing Reasonable Deadlines- Everyone knows that time is money, so when you delegate the tasks ensure you are explaining the deadline of when you want them completed. This will ensure that your VA has the proper timeline to complete the tasks in the way you want them. Of course, virtual assistants are only human, and there are limits to how much work they can produce within a limited timeframe. By giving them a reasonable timeframe to complete the work, you’re giving them the opportunity to complete high-quality work.

  4. Using the Right Tools- When working with remote team members, use effective digital collaboration platforms to ensure your team is working together efficiently and effectively. Using collaboration platforms like Google Drive, Slack, Zoom, Dropbox or Trello will enable effective ongoing teamwork.

  5. Document Processes- Documenting processes might seem like a tedious task at the beginning, but it will save you a whole lot of time in the long run. It also minimizes room for error and allows for quicker training of new assistants. The good news is, if you don’t yet have your processes documented, your VA can help by doing it as you’re training and onboarding them. You’ll have to allow them a bit more time to do this, but the investment will pay for itself many times over in the form of time savings and quality of work for your virtual assistant and other team members, both current and future.

Working with a virtual assistant has immense benefits for you and your business. You’ll save time, save money, become more productive and shift your focus to what really matters for growing your business. Implementing these tips with your newly hired virtual assistant will ensure a seamless, successful working partnership for years to come.
